Teaching skills and knowledge builds upon a basic skillset identified in the Theory Teaching Module to consider how students learn and understand.
The skills and knowledge subject focus is developed through two areas:
- Principles of demonstration, instruction, observation, and correction. These four principles statements were distributed to teachers as a guide by BKS Iyengar, in the mid 1980’s and are still relevant today.
- The Abhyasa-Vairagya Axis. The Axis is designed to deliver a different way of looking a teaching other than the lens of alignment and technique. As core principles of Yogic philosophy, Abhyasa and Vairagya are what we aim to establish when teaching and the axis is a means for teachers to review any teaching.
The subject is used by Teachers involved in the Reflective Practice-Teacher program.
