Professor Janet Nelson holds a doctorate in chemistry and has retired from the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Newcastle, AU. She is originally from the United States of America, and she and her family relocated permanently to Australia about five years ago. Professor Nelson is a transformational executive leader with global experience across academia, government, not-for-profit organizations, and industry. Janet is recognized for her international leadership with deep technical knowledge of both the health and energy sectors.
Now retired, Janet has focused her time on family and community service. She has rekindled her passion for yoga and began studying Iyengar Yoga in 2021 in Newcastle. She is a keen student and has enthusiastically developed her practice. She has personally experienced the profound effects of her yoga practice on her health and well being.
Janet has a strong Christian faith and has had a life long spiritual journey. In America, she undertook formal theological studies and training in the Episcopal (Anglican) church and was licenced by the Bishop as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
